The Leadership Awards are designed to bring recognition to Fleming College students for their contributions in each field presented. These students share their passion and commitment to campus life. This is your opportunity to show support to the individuals who go above and beyond. We want to give you the opportunity to recognize the people who help make Fleming College more than just class.
The 2024/2025 Student Leader Awards are as follows:
Street Team Awards: Gurnam Singh Sardar, Mayank Choudhary, Nevin Kurian, Purva Patel, Smit Virani, Varalakshmi Kannasani
Awarded to student representatives who have displayed extraordinary involvement in student affairs.
Student Administrative Council President’s Award (dedicated in honour of Bill Johnson): Ashwin Goudhaman
Selected by the SAC Board Chair and Board of Directors, this award is given to a student who exemplifies school spirit.
Iain Steele Leadership Award: Simrat Kaur
Awarded to a student who demonstrates great ambition, is innovative and has a high degree of moral standards and integrity.
Iain Steele Community Service Award: Gordon McHendry
Awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to serving the community and has a high degree of integrity.
Renie Steele Award: Aidan Watson
Awarded to a student who displays citizenship, understanding and compassion towards fellow students.
Environmental Stewardship Award: Harpreet Kaur
Given to a student who displays a responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices.
Fleming SAC Advocacy Award: Dorothy Joan Lavoie
Given to a student who demonstrates advocacy and a strong passion for invoking change.
Greg Riddle Award for Emerging Student Leader: Bridget Amankwah
Presented to a current full-time Fleming College student who successfully completed the Emerging Student Leaders program sponsored by Student Life. This student's actions enhanced individual and group experiences for fellow students during the program through understanding leadership, communication, team work and commitment.
Positive Space Award: Dipanshu Ghuman
The recipient of this award has demonstrated commitment to the ongoing development of creating a safe and inclusive learning environment at Fleming College. This current full-time student has supported diverse learning opportunities for staff and students through participation in Positive Space programming and has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ and other diverse communities.
International Student Services Leadership Award: Nkechi Ogwuadi
Presented to a current full-time international student who, through their leadership and initiative, has assisted and supported the successful transition and integration into campus life for their fellow international students.
Residence Life Leadership Award: Raphael Carrier-Moreault, Christabel Ngwube
The recipients of the Residence Life Leadership Award are role models within the Residence Life Staff teams at Sutherland Residence Village and Frost Residence Village. They are successful and well-balanced, also emphasize community building, and constantly go above and beyond the expectations in their role. They have served as mentors to their fellow colleagues and encourage their peers to work towards greatness in the role and an inclusive residence community.
Residence Life Engagement Award: Arshpreet Kaur, Victoria Carnemolla-Emberley
The recipients of the Residence Life Engagement Award demonstrate a true passion for Residence Life and programming. They go above and beyond to support residents through forming authentic connections during their weekly check-ins, programming initiatives, and day-to-day interactions. The recipients of the Engagement Award implemented countless successful programs at Sutherland Residence Village and Frost Residence Village in 2023-2024 and have directly contributed towards a welcoming residence environment.
Each year, Fleming Student Administrative Council works with students to advocate for the enrichment of student life on and off campus. The Student Leadership Awards are an opportunity to recognize students who contribute positively to the overall student environment at Fleming. Awards are given as bursaries in varying monetary values and have been donated by key partners and long-time supporters of student success at Fleming College.
